Unity

These are my writings to understand more about being. I also understand that I’m absolutely ignorant, so don’t take these words of thought as Truth.

All of us have the exact same essence, but personal experiences plus programming by our parents, caretakers, and their whole line of ancestry, create ‘identity’.

Identity has a hierarchical layered structure which ranking is fluid. How a layer is ranked depends on the (social) surroundings you find yourself in, creating a tinted lens that you see the world through.

Due to the passage of time we experience, due to our experiences we create identity, and through the lens of identity we perceive ‘reality’. In short: We perceive reality through the lens of the dominant layer of identity that is created by experiences and heritage.

But IS that true self? Are You the collection of specific experiences that you cling onto? Or are You the center that is surrounded by this collection?

If we strip ourselves from all our experiences, who are we really?

If we look deep inside ourselves and truly understand who we are, why we are and how our layers of identities came to be, we will also truly understand The Other.

The Other, being the one whose lens is turned differently.
So, your identity and it’s layers exist due to interpretation of every event in your personal history, ‘good’ and/or ‘bad’.

Understand that most of those experiences you’ve witnessed, has been perceived through the lens of your dominant identity layer at that time.

If you understand how your identity works, you will understand that the identity of ‘The Other’ is constructed exactly the same as well.

When our eyes are turned inwards, we will recognise The Other, as same.

At that moment, there will be no place for judgement, only empathy and acceptance.

And ultimately,
Unity.

❤️🙏🏽

True Self 3/3

FIRST STAGE REALISATION OF ‘TRUE’ SELF – 3/3
__________________________________
This one right here is exactly what I experienced during my first DMT-exploration, one year ago. It took me all this time to really visualise it. I couldn’t understand it, I still don’t understand shit. All I know was that it was more real than real.

The lines and colours, coming together in a donut shape, were in motion, pulsating, vibrating with light, moving like clockwork. It is alive. It was a short glimpse, like putting your head into a pond to see what’s underwater, but my breath ran short. I wanted to explore this realm, but I couldn’t as my body was attached to myself.

Altho I felt this is a small introduction to something greater, somehow my experience is resonating as personal truth ever since. I have greater feeling that all is one. To me, you are me, I am you, we are from the same source. There is no real self.

The second trip was even more mindblowing, I encountered a realer than real flower-octupus kind of lifeform that reassured me that it was responsible for my being and that all will be allright. Maybe in another year I’ll be ready to draw that one haha.

Ever since my trips I feel more connected with existence, reassured, fearless.

Don’t get it twisted tho, DMT intakes were very scary to me. But in the end the main fear, fear of death has been eradicated.

I feel intensely grateful to be alive tho, it’s an amazing journey to experience all our dualities.

Old Future Folk #5

I’m often fascinated how tribalism works these days.

We see people stand strong by their ideologies, choosing sides, convinced by their truths. We see some of us being against all form of stereotypes and categories, therefor they create all new stereotypes and categories, convinced that everybody needs to be accepted, except the people that won’t accept. Us vs. Them.

Fighting for full acceptance, accepting all except the ones that don’t accept.

It’s funny but isn’t full acceptance also accepting the ones that don’t accept you and your beliefs?

But how does that work tho, when in the end the opposite of our beliefs are true? What if that truth isn’t true either. Aren’t our beliefs at this moment just a reflection of us in this moment? Isn’t life, emotion, character, beliefs all ever changing, fluctuating?

Isn’t that just beautiful?

Is there a place for reconsideration in this era, or in future era’s? Is there anything wrong with being wrong? Is there anything wrong with regret and acknowledging ignorance?

Is there a way to be more flexible with our beliefs and ideologies and accept that we know absolutely nothing?

What is wrong with being truly humble?
What is the truth actually?
Is there even one single truth? 🤔

Ah well, so many questions, not enough answers, not enough time.

I guess I don’t have much of a choice but to observe, feel and keep learning, eventually to ask better questions. 🙏🏽❤️

Old Future Folk #4

Making this one I was thinking about how we will grow old with social media and future technologies. Seeing 12-year olds using instagram is exciting man. Being from the 80’s I recall ringing doorbells to ask if my friends are home to go play outside and physically turn the dail when I needed to make a call, stuck to a wire ☎️.

Good old times.

We all know that ever since social media is a huge part of society, depression has risen; comparing our lives to unrealistic timelines of others. Will we ever turn these numbers around and learn how to deal with this ego inflating piece of technology? Or is confrontation with self through social media neccesary to realise we have more work to do, so we will? 🐛🦋

I would lie if I told you that social media doesn’t affect my mood every now and then. But these dips occur less and less frequently ever since the realization came that I’ll still be able to physically breath, laugh, love, taste, see, smell, hear and feel wether being liked, commented on and followed or not.

I’m feeling thankful for being able to fully understand that experiencing sadness is positive, or else feeling happiness wouldn’t be possible.

Let’s make social media work for you, not the other way around 🙏🏽❤️ .

Old Future Folk #3

I’m enjoying making these Old Future Folk series man, and happy to see you guys do too! So much gratitude!

That being said, I was watching that new Streetfood documentary on Netflix and saw these beautiful elders in Yogyakarta and Osaka. Did you see it? Go check it, it’s dope.

But that ikigai spirit in combination with the warmth and love these people have for their craft, community and customers is deeply touching.

That made me think tho; as A.I. and machine learning will do our labor, how are we going to strive towards having a ‘meaningful’ life? Will we spend more time creating, resting on top of Maslow’s pyramid? Or will we be a generation that’s globally picking our nose on the porch, being bored out of our minds 🤔?

As computers are taking over the next few years, I bet now is the time to start getting skilled. Any form of retiring is overrated tho imo, if you love what you do that is, and were smart with your profits haha. (And how many generations has depended on retiring at 65+ again?)

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that I’m a big dummy and I know absolutely nothing, but I got a gut feeling that the old cliché forever will be true: Follow your heart and heart your followers; get yo ikigai on bruh. -Love you all my sweet sweet followers ❤️😏-.

Ah well, I’m going to eat my day and start some Netflix on streetfood ❤️🙏🏽.

Old Future Folk #2

In continuation on my fictional old future folk series 👵🏽👴🏽;

I was wondering, as technology gets smaller and smaller, how do we treat gadgets in a few decades? Will we really want them to become invisible as we implement them on and in our bodies, in the form of apps and augmented reality thru lenses or brain wave receptors? Or will we always admire our tools having a physical touch? 🤔

I remember being mad judgemental about people walking the streets making handsfree-calls a few years ago. Obviously I was (am) a fool… Ever learning tho!

Ah well, just another few random thoughts projected from my handheld gadget onto yours.

Old Future Folk #1

I’ve been orking on some portraits of fictional old future people 👴🏽👵🏽. Growing old fascinates me, especially within our ‘age’ where current 30-year olds might turn 150 or older due to genetic technologies like CRISPR and our western underappreciation of death. Not trying to sound macabre or as a creepy old Ed Gein skull collecting dude, but I mean there is a certain beauty in aging and the inevitability of dying right? How would our society behave with a possible eternal future? 🤔. Ah well, back to Netflix for now. ✌🏽❤️💀

Welcome to Sam City!

Client: Sam Zipursky.

My homie @samzipursky gave me one hell of a birthday gift this year, to return the favor, I’m making him a custom 120x150cm piece for his new loft in Vancouver!

I was happy to hear my homie @samzipursky is loving the piece and is working towards getting it printed! ❤️🙏🏽

This one is an exclusive, but I will be making more of these cities in the future and I’m very happy to make these on commission for your interior, living room, office, airBnB, or any other place that needs a colorful skyline. DM me for prices starting at €250 and up.

Had a ton of fun tho drawing in this new found style and felt very liberated by working sloppy but with a certain way of accuracy. I tried to give it as much depth as possible with a limited amount of colours and layers.

Some say that to manifest a desired outcome we start with the Thought, follow with the Word and end with the Deed.

Some say we can already experience a desired outcome by proceeding in the reversed order.

Authors and speakers like Neale Donald Walsch, Leo Gura, Neville Goddard and Napoleon Hill in combination with psychedelic experiences changed my view on life thoroughly the last few years. In a good way I must say.

Being an artist doing commercial work as well, I find the need to express my new found experiences thru my artworks.

Therefor there will be much more metaphysical work in the future, as well as more lighthearted and commercial work.

MASK

While in between commissions and enjoying the sun, I’m working on some new ideas for a new serie! 🙂👺💃🏽.

HANUMAN – Heritage Series

Available as poster print: Marvin Bruin Webshop

HERITAGE SERIES

These series are made as an appreciation for Marvin’s cultural background: Indonesia.

Growing up surrounded by the Barong mask, these mystical hardwood sculptures were a direct and touchable link to the country and culture his parents grew up in. The Heritage Series consist of Barong, Rangda and Hanuman.

Barong and Rangda were initially made for BeatsForChange.org. A non-profit organization focused on music and art to spread and support social innovation ideas, concepts and companies.

Barong and Rangda were made in support of R.O.L.E. Foundation located in Bali, who are empowering locals by raising environmental awareness and teaching them how to take care of their surroundings.

“RANGDA” for Beats for Change x Los Bangeles present The Bali Sessions: Trouble in Paradise

Dedication: R.O.L.E. Foundation

We from Beats for Change teamed up with the Los Bangeles crew to dedicate our first fundraising event for the sake of environmental issues in Bali, Indonesia.

With the use of the old traditional Balinese story about the battle between Barong and Rangda (Good and Bad) we printed 4 exclusive giclée prints. During our event at the LEYP store we held a lottery where everybody could buy €5 a ticket to win one of these prints!

This event was a major succes. We had DJ’s, performances, traditional indonesian food and got sponsored by the good people of Bavaria.

We now can send R.O.L.E. Foundation 395€! So that will be 535$ (6.315.970rp!) to help out environmental programs and spread awareness to the locals about keeping their little paradise clean for future generations.

See event pictures here.
More information about R.O.L.E. here.
